Semi-Abstract Creek (series)
watercolour on paper
There's a certain atmosphere that can be experienced in a forest, especially in the morning which a camera never seems to capture. This is in part what I'm attempting to evoke through many of my paintings, and in this series of experiments especially.
It was relatively late in life that I discovered the Japanese term Shinrin-yoku or 'Forest Bathing'. An odd term perhaps, given no water is necessarily involved. If however you consider the quality of the light, the smells, and the sounds of a forest, I believe the term is very fitting. One really can feel as though they are immersed in a forest's atmosphere. Finally, I had found a justification for my tendency to dawdle when I bush walk.
